Family Composting Course (In-Person)

Does your family include a child who's a budding scientist, garden enthusiast, or conservationist in the making? Or perhaps you're planning to compost at home, but want to get the whole family on board to make it a success. If so, this course will help kickstart your shared composting adventure. Through elementary-level lessons, hands-on experience, and engaging activities, Solana Center's staff will teach your family everything you need to compost with confidence, all presented in a way that's fun and intuitive for kids. Classes will be conducted outside at a family home in Fallbrook. The address will be shared in a welcome mailer one week before the course starts. Topics Covered How composting happens, and why it's important What can be composted and tools needed Starting a traditional compost pile and keeping it happy Using compost in your home and garden This class will meet Saturdays from 12 - 2 PM Week 1 - November 6 Week 2 - November 13 Week 3 - November 20 Course Fee: $25 per family*? Unincorporated San Diego County residents will receive preferential registration. Residents of incorporated cities will be placed on a wait list and apprised of space available 1-2 weeks before the start of the course. *If the fee presents a financial hardship, please contact Diane Hazard at diane@solanacenter.org to apply for a scholarship.
